KHOJALY GENOCİDE

Bu hadisələr Azərbaycanda və Türkiyədə “Xocalı soyqırımı”, “Xocalı faciəsi” kimi adlanır. Ermənistanda isə bu əməliyyat “Xocalı döyüşü”, “Xocalı hadisəsi” terminləri ilə ifadə olunur. Qərb və dünya mətbuati “Xocalı qətliamı” (“Khojaly Massacre”, fr. “Massacre də Khodjaly”) terminindən istifadə ətməyə üstünlük verir.

In the night from 25th to 26th of February Armenian Armed Forces occupied the city of Khojaly with the support of military staff and armored technique of 366th motor-rifle regiment which is located in the city of Khankendi (Stepanakert) from the USSR times. Before attack, on the 25th of February the town was fired upon.  At the result, on the 26th of February at 5 o’clock in the morning Khojaly was completely caught fire. Nearly 2500 Khojaly residents, who stayed in blockaded town, left Khojaly with the hope to reach the centre of Aghdam region. But within one day 613 of 2500 residents who left the city razed from the ground, encountered enemy bullet and became victims of this execution. At the result of this genocide 63 children, 106 women, 70 old men and women – totally 613 Khojaly residents were executed, 8 family was completely annihilated, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one of his parents. 76 of 487 wounded persons, who encountered enemy bullet, were children. 1275 Khojaly inhabitants were captivated, 150 were lost. Property of state and people was damaged to 5 mlrd.rubl.,according to prices for 1 Aprel, 1992.

These incidents are known in Azerbaijan and Turkey as “Khojaly genocide”, “Khojaly tragedy”. But in Armenia this operation is indicated with the terms of “Khojaly battle”, “Khojaly incident”. Western and world press prefers to use the term of “Khojaly Massacre”.
